Florida – Are criminal charges proper for mangrove destruction? – The Palm Beach Post

To this point, a hefty fine was going to be Roger Byrd’s punishment for willfully destroying mangroves on his riverfront property in Jupiter. In something of a shocker, a town magistrate ordered him to pay $1.6 million in a case that has seen Roger Byrd and his wife, Myrna, vilified for so obviously seeming to put themselves above the law.
