Florida – Loggerhead sea turtle raised in captivity released – Naples Daily News

NAPLES, FL – A female loggerhead sea turtle took her first swim in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday.

The turtle was transported from Calusa Island Marina in Goodland to Gullivan’s Bay in the Ten Thousand Islands, about an hour south of Goodland. At the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, the turtle had resided in a tank in the Discovery Center.

“We did not give her a name. We didn’t want visitors to think it was a pet,” said Barbara Wilson, director of marketing and communications. “She served as education ambassador.”
